The best car phone mount will depend on what you want your mount for. Some prefer to keep their phone low, others want to see it high up on the dashboard while using it for GPS. There are really cool features like arms that will open when your phone is close, magnetic retention options, and even Apple MagSafe capabilities that make charging easier.

Note that just because the stand offers wireless charging, it doesn’t mean there are no cables involved. You will still need to connect the charger to your vehicle, but you don’t need to plug the charger into your phone every time to charge it. To get the fastest wired and wireless charging speeds available for iPhone and Android smartphones, you’ll need a power adapter that offers fast charging (most fast chargers have a USB-C connection and can deliver at least 20 watts of power ).

CNET experts have tested and reviewed all the products on this list in their own cars. We update this summary periodically as new car phone mounts are released.

The iOttie autosense wireless car charger with phone holder is one of the best on the market. Although it is expensive, we have seen some good discounts on it recently. The Auto Sense auto-clamp Qi car charging stand comes in a dash mount version or a CD, cup holder and vent clip version (I tried the wireless dash mount). This wireless car charger stand has a well-designed telescopic arm and a strong suction cup, and the wireless charging stand function is compatible with most phone cases. You get 7.5-watt charging for iPhones and 10-watt charging for Android phones, which is considered fast wireless charging.

This Qi wireless charger comes with a USB lighter adapter for dual charging. My only gripe – and it’s a minor one – is that the included cable is Micro-USB, not USB Type-C. Once this Qi charger is plugged into the wireless car charging stand, you can forget about it, but if the cable accidentally disconnects (which happens), it’s easier to plug in a USB-C cable to charge your phone, especially when re-driving.

If you don’t mind going with a no-name brand like ZeeHoo, its wireless car charger has most of the features you want for phone charging, including auto-clamping, a secure suction cup that can be mounted on your car’s air vent, windshield, or the dashboard. There’s USB-C and up to 15W fast charging for Android phones that support it (iPhones are limited to 7.5W charging). This upgraded version has a sleeker design than the original (see below) and costs about $20 less than the iOttie above. This wireless charger does not come with a cigarette lighter adapter – only a USB-C cable.

This wireless car charger is one of the most popular generic auto-sensing telescoping arm wireless car chargers and the original version I tried worked well overall, attaching securely to my car’s air vent and providing fast charging on my smartphone or QI enabled device.

Note that to get fast charging, you’ll need a power adapter that supports it (not included).

If you don’t want wireless charging or arms or a stand with arms that open automatically, iOttie’s tried and true Easy One Touch 5 is a solid stand for just under $25. You can pick up the first-gen version of the stand for $23, but this upgraded model has a telescoping arm.

Belkin’s Car Vent Mount Pro with MagSafe isn’t technically a charger. It’s just a certified MagSafe vent mount. Belkin also has a wireless charging version of that (it costs $34 without car charger and $50 with him), but you’ll still need to connect a cable to it for charging. The advantage of the wireless version would be that unlike this vent stand, you won’t have to plug a cable into your phone every time you want to charge it. I have a USB-C to Lightning cable set up in the car for fast charging, but I don’t like the extra step of having to plug in the cable every time I want to charge the phone.

All that said, what sets this Belkin apart from other generic, non-MagSafe-certified mounts that look similar (and some even offer wireless charging) is that the Belkin has a strong magnet, while many of these other vent mounts don’t . If you have a MagSafe case on your phone, or just a bare newer iPhone model, the phone really sticks to the stand. The clip also holds the stand securely in your air vent, and you can rotate the stand from portrait to landscape mode if needed.

I’ve been using the Scosche Magic Mount Pro 2 for a few weeks and it has a strong magnet (I have an iPhone 14 Pro with a MagSafe case) and the swivel arm allows for good flexibility to position your phone. Note that this is not a wireless car mount, so you will need to plug a cable into your phone. The main advantage it has over other magnetic car mounts is the arm design. I’m using the car vent option, but you can mount it on the dash. However, most people will use the vent option.

I installed this phone holder in my car because I didn’t want anything sticking out of my dash when I wasn’t using the holder. It has a clamshell design and you open the top cover and place your phone inside. You can also place your phone vertically if you want, but I mostly keep my phone horizontally in the holder. The base rotates which is nice.

Note that you need a flat panel to mount this. Sticks to your dashboard or other flat surface.

Belkin makes a MagSafe Car Vent Mount which costs around $40 (see above) as well BoostCharge Pro ($90), which is certified by Apple and wirelessly charges an iPhone at up to 15 watts. Although this model—the Belkin BoostCharge Magnetic Wireless Car Charger—only charges iPhones at up to 10 watts, it’s more affordable at around $60. Its USB-C cable is removable (it’s integrated with BoostCharge Pro) and you get a 20-watt cigarette lighter power adapter. I like a car power adapter with two USB-C ports so the passenger can plug in a cable and also charge their phone, but you can always choose to add that later.

If you already have Apple’s MagSafe wireless charging pad, this Spigen mounting accessory is a good option to put it in your car. As I said, the MagSafe wireless charger is not included. Neither does a USB-C lighter adapter. At $22, it’s a pretty affordable magnetic mount accessory.

Note: Make sure you use the correct cigarette lighter adapter to get the maximum charging speed of 15 watts. Also, since this relies on the magnets from the wireless charging pad to stick your phone to it (a MagSafe case is required if you’re using a case), it’s not recommended for larger iPhone models as it’s more likely to slip out of the stand — especially if you hit a bump — because of its weight.

Some people like phone stands with cup holders, but keep in mind that these will take up space in one of your cup holders. Although it’s pretty generic, the Tecknet is a good value if you’re looking for this type of stand that has a flexible gooseneck so you can better position your phone for viewing. It also comes with a car vent mount and has a one-touch release mechanism.

Okay, so this isn’t a wireless charger, but a lot of the wireless car chargers on this list don’t include a cigarette lighter power adapter, so I thought I’d put it on the list last. I originally had an Aukey power adapter on this list, but it’s out of stock, and this Ainope Low Profile Mini Fast USB Car Charger offers even faster charging (up to 24 watts) and costs less. It has a USB-C and USB-A port, so you can charge two devices at the same time, but to get 15W wireless charging, you’ll be better off charging one device.

Note that to get the fastest wired charging for iPhone, you’ll need to use a USB-C to Lightning cable. This cable is not included.
