A body believed to be that of a missing hiker has been found in the wilderness on Tasmania’s west coast.
Searchers from Ambulance Tasmania and the State Emergency Service found the man’s body off the piste at the summit of Frenchmans Cap on Saturday.
Police and rescue teams were called to the mountain, in the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park, after reports that a hiker had not returned to camp as planned on Wednesday.
Police said the 28-year-old Hobart man appeared to have died as a result of injuries sustained in the fall.

“The man’s family has been notified and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time,” a Tasmania Police spokesman said.
Police thanked those involved in the search Friday night into Saturday, as well as pedestrians who alerted police of their concerns for the man.
