North America authorities found the body of a fifth missing more than a month later the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.
The Key Bridge Joint Response Command said the victim found Wednesday has been identified as Miguel Angel Luna Gonzalez, 49, of Glen Burnie, Maryland.
Six road crew members died on March 26 when a container ship lost power and crashed into one of the bridge’s support columns.
Five bodies have been recovered, but one worker, Jose Minor Lopez, has not been found.
They were all Hispanic immigrants who came to the United States from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras.
Recovery operation in progress
Rescue crews found one of the missing construction vehicles Wednesday and notified Maryland State Police, officials said.
State police investigators and police officers from the Maryland Transportation Authority and the FBI responded to the scene and removed the body in a red truck.
The State Police Underwater Recovery Team and Crime Scene Unit also assisted.
“We remain dedicated to ongoing recovery operations, while knowing that behind every person lost in this tragedy is a loving family,” Maryland Police Chief Roland Butler said in a statement.
“Along with our local, state and federal partners, we ask that everyone extend their deepest sympathies and support to the families at this difficult time.”
The Dali container ship is still in the wreckage after the collapse, but crews plan to refloat the vessel and remove it, allowing more marine traffic to resume through the Port of Baltimore.
Officials expect to remove it by May 10, according to a Port of Baltimore news release.
