Coles supermarkets introduces temporary purchase limit on eggs

“Due to a short supply of eggs we have introduced a temporary limit of two items per customer/transaction,” said signs at Coles supermarkets.
“This will help maintain availability and keep as many customers as possible.
“Thank you for your patience, we apologize for the inconvenience.”
Egg suppliers told 9News Melbourne the situation was the worst they had seen in more than 20 years.
One supplier predicts that the price of a carton of eggs could potentially triple in the next few weeks.
WA Commercial Egg Production Association president Ian Wilson told Radio 6PR that WA farmers had enough eggs to continue supplying the state, but not enough to share.
“At the moment here in Western Australia we are just concentrating on filling the shelves for our local markets and I don’t think there will be any spare parts to send east,” he said.
9News saw reports of shortages at Aldi and Woolworths today, but the supermarkets do not intend to impose purchase restrictions in the near future.
