A grandmother is in hospital in a critical condition after she was allegedly stabbed multiple times by her partner in Perth’s east.
Police were called to a home on Jessie Road in Gooseberry Hill just after 5pm yesterday after neighbors allegedly heard the 60-year-old’s screams.
Paulette Mountford, 60, was allegedly stabbed three times in the alleged domestic violence incident.
Neighbors applied pressure to her neck and body after she was found in the garden before paramedics arrived.
9News understands her partner, Christopher John Sullivan, 72, barricaded himself in their home after the alleged attack.
Tactical Response Officers negotiated with him until he eventually came out and was arrested.
Mountford was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.
The 60-year-old was a church volunteer who helped support victims of domestic violence.
“We are devastated and completely devastated that our dear mother has endured such a horrific ordeal,” Mountford’s daughter told 9News.
“All we want is for our mother to get over her injuries.”
Sullivan was on trial on a charge of attempted murder.
He told the magistrate he intended to plead guilty but had not been formally entered.
The matter was adjourned pending legal advice being provided to the accused.
When it resumed, Sullivan had a lawyer on duty. He did not apply for bail and is being held in custody.
He is due back in court on June 26.
