The Royal family celebrated older brother Archie’s birthday on May 6, but there was radio silence around Lilibeth.
Archie and Lilibeth are technically a prince and princess, although their parents, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are stepping back from royal duties and moving away from the UK in 2020.
Royal correspondent Daniel Stacey believes public recognition of non-working royals is limited by King Charles III took the throne.
“In recent years, and certainly since King Charles III’s reign began in September 2022, we have only seen public messages from the royal family’s social media accounts about working members of the royal family,” she said. HELLO!
“Like the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal.”
But it wasn’t just estranged family members who didn’t publicly acknowledge the little girl’s birthday.
Lilibeth’s parents also refrained from releasing a public announcement about their daughter’s big day.
It is understood that Lilibeth’s birthday was celebrated quietly with close friends of Harry and Meghan at their home base in Montecito, California.
It has become a tradition for William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, to release a new photo of their children George, Charlotte and Louis on each birthday.
However, the same tradition is not followed by Harry and Meghan for their children.
The last time an official portrait of Lilibeth was released was on her first birthday.
The only other official image shared by her parents was in their 2021 Christmas card, when she was just six months old, which also featured Archie.
Archie was born before the Sussexes stepped down from royal duties, and so more official portraits of him exist, but they are mostly from infancy.
It was taken as a newborn, at his christening and during his parents’ tour of South Africa when he was four months old.
In the Netflix documentary Harry and Meghan, viewers only see fleeting glimpses of the Sussex children.
“We’re really conscious of protecting our children as best we can,” Harry said in one segment of the documentary series.
Meghan added that it was important to protect their children “as much as possible … while also understanding the role they play in this truly historic family.”
