A tech giant An apple is expected to release the first versions of its much-anticipated iOS 18 update early next week.
In the company Worldwide Developers Conference it is believed that select users will be among the first to try out what is being called the biggest upgrade in Apple’s phone history.
“I’m told that the new operating system is being viewed within the company as one of the biggest iOS updates — if not the biggest — in the company’s history,” a tech expert Mark German told followers.

“With that knowledge, Apple’s June developer conference should be pretty exciting.”
iOS 18, codenamed “Crystal,” won’t land on all iPhones for a few months.
But Apple’s head of software engineering, Craig Federighi, confirmed that there will be “ambitious changes across the board.”
Many of these changes are believed to focus on new features powered by AI (artificial intelligence).
One of the biggest updates is believed to be an improved version of voice-controlled Siri that uses generative AI.
Siri will reportedly be able to have a more natural-sounding conversation and deliver personalized responses based on the user, according to the New York Post.
AI can also be used to create “auto-generated playlists” in Apple Music.
It is also predicted that SMS messages will be redesigned and features including sending higher resolution photos and videos will be part of the new look.
According to TechCrunchiMessages will also get a refreshed look and feel.
AI generating emoticons can be created, meaning users can create their own unique emoticons using keyword prompts.
With the upcoming update, users will no longer be limited by the traditional grid system that aligns app icons without spaces.
Instead, they will have the freedom to place app icons anywhere on the screen, providing a more personalized and flexible layout.
Additionally, iOS 18 will allow users to change the color of their app icons.
This feature appears to be Apple’s answer to Google’s Material You, which offers similar customization options.
On another expiration, AppleInsider reports that notifications will be reworked with AI summaries in what Apple calls “Enhanced” notifications.
While this isn’t expected to match the way notifications are grouped on Android, it’s expected to help with some of the clutter iPhone users experience. according to MacRumors.
Apple typically allows updates to phones up to five years old, although there are rumors that iOS 18 may be compatible with eight-year-old phones.
Apple’s much-anticipated foray into the artificial intelligence arena is expected to be unveiled during previews of the next generation of software updates at WWDC, which begins on June 11 (AEST).
