Police last night issued a nationwide alert for Alan Hopkins, 44, who is wanted for an alleged serious sex offense involving a child.
He was previously believed to have fled the state in Victoria, but Victoria Police told 9News they no longer believe he is there.
The search comes more than a decade after he was convicted of raping a child.
He pleaded guilty to abducting a 10-year-old girl while she was sleeping in a Paralovie home he burgled in 2007.
He took her to a nearby school, where he raped her twice.
Hopkins received the minimum sentence of 8 1/2 years and was eligible for parole in 2017. It is unclear when he was released.
The survivor’s older brother said they were disturbed by the thought that Hopkins had hurt another child.
“She’s really devastated as of today. She collapsed, her heart was broken,” he told 9News.
Hopkins is described as Caucasian with short brown hair and brown eyes and is 185cm tall with a solid build.
He has a skull tattoo on his upper right arm.
He is believed to have been driving a gray 2022 Mazda BT50 ute with South Australian registration XC101T.
Anyone who spots him, his vehicle or has information on his whereabouts is urged to call immediately on 131 444 or three zero in an emergency.
