Emergency services were called to a park on Mortimer Road in Acacia Ridge at around 12.10am to find a man with multiple stab wounds to his abdomen.
Despite the efforts of the paramedics, the 22-year-old victim died.
The man has been identified as Bosco Minjurano.
His heartbroken family visited the park as police hunted for his alleged killer, who fled before authorities arrived.
A relative of his told 9News that Miniurano is a kind and caring person who has a number of sporting achievements.
Detective Inspector Craig MacDonald said it was believed Minjurano knew his alleged killer and said they were both part of a large group that had gathered at the park overnight.
“It appears there was a fight and a man was stabbed,” he told a news conference.
“We have a lot of people helping the detectives.”
A witness told 9News the group appeared to be six people.
“There was alcohol on stage, they were drinking,” Taryn Lowden said.
“There is something that leads to something.”
9News understands police have identified a house of interest in their investigations.
