Man allegedly steals police uniform from Melbourne house, brandishes fake firearm

A man allegedly broke into a house, stole a police uniform and then brandished a firearm on the road in Melbourne southeast.
The man is believed to have broken into a home in Malvern East at around 3pm on Sunday and stole police clothing including a shirt and boots.
While he was inside, one of the occupants came home and confronted him. The man then fled on foot.

At 11pm on the same day, police received reports of a man wearing a police uniform holding what appeared to be a firearm on Warragul Rd and then on Castlebar Rd in Oakleigh.
Police, the air force unit and the dog unit searched the area but were unable to find the man.
But then they got another call that he was at a licensed premises on Dandenong Rd in Oakleigh.
When they arrived they found the man, believed to be wearing a police uniform and wearing a belt with an imitation firearm.
The 46-year-old man of no fixed address was detained at the scene.
He was charged with burglary, two counts of theft, possession of an imitation firearm and impersonating a PSO.
He will appear at Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
