Melbourne grandmother hospitalised after man steals her car following Facebook Marketplace ad

A Melbourne grandmother underwent two surgeries this week after she was left with a broken leg in a failed Marketplace sale.
The Shepparton woman is now demanding Facebook increase security on its online trading site, claiming a man used a fake account to arrange an opportunity to steal the car she was selling there.
Rebecca Strader won’t be able to walk for months after her leg was crushed by the car she was trying to sell on Facebook Marketplace.
She didn’t want to sell her Holden ClubSport.
But the single mum, who works at Coles, says she was desperate for money to keep a roof over her family’s head.
Streader posts an ad on Facebook Marketplace, and from there a person who wants to buy the car arranges a test drive time.
The Streader’s Ring captured the moment he appeared at her home, but did not record what happened next.
When the man asked for a test drive, Strader gave him the keys, but before she could jump into the passenger seat, he locked the car doors.
The grandmother says she begged him to stop, but instead – in front of her 15-year-old son – the man ran over her leg before driving off.
“I was banging on the window begging him to stop because this car is something I bought years ago and I thought, ‘I can’t lose it. I can’t afford to lose her,” Strider told 9News, wiping away tears.
“Facebook needs a big change. It’s too easy for people to be scammed or robbed.”
Streader tried to track the man down on Facebook, but she believes he messaged her from a fake account.
She described him as about 170 centimeters tall, with a medium build and a goatee.
The police have been notified and are investigating.
Meanwhile, friends are raising money on GoFundMe to help the grandmother get back on her feet.
