Ensenada locals called for justice following the execution-style deaths of three people – including two Australians – on a surfing trip in Mexico.

The bodies of Perth Brothers Callum Robinson, 33, and Jake Robinson, 30, and their American friend Jack Carter Road, 30, have been identified by family after they were found in a well.

All three were shot in the head because the thieves wanted spare parts from them, authorities believe.

Mexico’s foreign minister, Alicia Barcena, offered her condolences to the men’s parents, and her office said it “expresses its solidarity with the families of the victims in the face of this tragic event and deeply regrets the outcome of the events.”

The trio were honored with a paddle by locals who shared their love of the sea and locals also marched holding signs reading ‘Australia, we’re with you’.

Locals in Ensenada know this case has brought international attention to the larger problem of violent crime in their community, and they hope it will spark change.

“We are really sorry that this happened. As local surfers from Baja California, we are rocked to the core,” said Baha Surf Club Vice President Gino Passalacqua

Another local surfer told 7NEWS: “We’re asking for safety, we’re asking for justice for these (people).”

About 150 people also gathered for a vigil in San Diego, where Callum lived, according to reports.

The Robinson brothers were in northern Mexico on a surfing vacation when they failed to check into prearranged lodging near the town of Ensenada.

WA Prime Minister Roger Cook said the situation was incredibly sad for family and friends.

“Everyone in Western Australia is hurt as we hear more aspects of this story, the violence they were subjected to and of course the loss of life,” he said.

Callum was a member of the Australian national lacrosse team and Lacrosse Australia said its thoughts are with the families of all three victims.

Callum also played lacrosse at Stevenson University in Maryland, and former coach Paul Cantabene said he got along with everyone while being “big, fast, tough and just good” on the field.

Jake, a doctor, ventured abroad to join his brother on “the trip of a lifetime.”

Their family traveled to the state of Baja California in northern Mexico and were taken to see two bodies found at the bottom of a well atop a cliff on the Baja Peninsula on Mexico’s west coast.

The thieves allegedly killed the three men to steal their truck because they wanted the tires and then allegedly disposed of the bodies about 6 kilometers away.

The preliminary hypothesis of the Mexican authorities is that the surfers resisted the abduction.

Three suspects have been detained in connection with the case, which some local residents say authorities have worked to solve far more quickly than the disappearance of thousands of Mexicans.

One of the three was charged Saturday with enforced disappearance, which amounts to kidnapping.

The state attorney general’s office said evidence found along with abandoned tents at a burned-out campsite was linked to the three people being questioned.

The media reported that the fourth body found in the well was believed to be that of the missing property owner.
