Jessie had just gotten off the trolley near the station when the man on the scooter refused to move out of the way.
He then drove off but quickly turned around before hitting her from behind.
“She moved between 7-10 meters away and this guy leaned back and then crushed her from behind,” son Ken told 7NEWS.
“Apparently she stopped breathing for about 20 seconds, that’s what we heard.”
Jesse remains in hospital with five stitches in his arm and is undergoing further tests on his spine.
“Such a cowardly thing, I don’t know what would have occurred to him to do that,” Jesse told 7NEWS from his hospital bed.
“Why would anyone do that?
“He should be ashamed of himself.”
Ken said they are still waiting on test results to find out the full extent of her injuries.
“I’m waiting for an MRI to see if there’s any permanent damage to her spine. It’s pretty scary,” he said.
The police are investigating the incident, with Ken appealing for the alleged perpetrator to come forward.
“You made a mistake, you did something wrong, come forward,” he added.
Jesse’s story quickly attracted attention in the AFL world and Collingwood legend Peter Daikos was among those to offer his support.
The club grandee sent a video message on behalf of the club on Monday morning.
