Princess Anne, the sister of King Charles III, has been hospitalized with a minor head injury and concussion.
The 73-year-old daughter of Queen Elizabeth II was walking in her Gatcombe Park estate, about 170 kilometers west of London, when the accident happened yesterday.
Exactly what happened is not known, but there were horses walking nearby and her injuries are believed to be consistent with a potential blow from the head or legs of a horse.
An ambulance took her to the hospital.
“The Princess Royal has suffered minor injuries and concussion following an incident at Gatcombe Park Estate yesterday evening,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
“Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precaution for observation and a full and speedy recovery is expected.
“The King has been carefully informed and joins the entire Royal Family in sending their heartiest love and best wishes to the Princess for a speedy recovery.”
Anne’s husband, Sir Tim Lawrence, and children, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips, were at the estate at the time.
The King and Queen Camilla and Anne’s other siblings were told of the incident last night.
Anne is considered one of the hardest working members of the royal family, attending dozens of official events throughout the year.
“On medical advice, Her Royal Highness’ engagements for next week will be postponed,” a palace spokesman said.
“Her Royal Highness sends her apologies to anyone who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”
She was supposed to fly to Canada at the end of the week, but those plans are likely to be delayed.
Anne is the second of Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s four children and their only daughter.
