The heartbroken parents of a toddler who died of undiagnosed leukemia say staff at the Joondalup Health Campus ignored their requests for a blood test and then lied about it.

Sandipan Dhar died at the Joondalup Health Campus on March 24 after enduring a prolonged fever.

His parents, Sanjoy and Saraswati Dhar, say they repeatedly asked for a blood test that could have detected his cancer during an emergency visit to the hospital on March 22 – but were denied.

The 21-month-old Perth the boy’s father wants the officers, who he says dismissed his concerns, to be suspended pending an investigation.

“I feel sorry for them. They should not be in this profession, they are not fit for this profession because it is a noble profession, they are dealing with people’s lives,” Sanjoy told 7NEWS.

Parents were forced to provide evidence of a referral after doctors and nurses denied a blood test was ever requested.

“This is a very big lie,” Sanjoy claims.

Staff at the campus are being questioned again and an independent external review has been ordered into how the Joondalup emergency department handles children.

A panel of pediatric emergency specialists, other than Ramsay, from the eastern states will do the work.

Sandipan’s parents asked that the review take input from parents and doctors with different backgrounds.

“We lost our faith because before we thought that if something went wrong, we would go to the doctor and everything should be fine,” Sanjoy said.

He plans to make formal complaints against staff at Joondalup and the Northern Suburbs Medical Centre, who visited Sandipan several times in the months before his death.

Ramsay Health Care country manager Shane Kelly previously noted a “rift” between campus staff and the boy’s family over calls for testing.

“We looked into this as part of our investigation into the blood test request and interviewed our staff about it,” Kelly said.

“I think that’s something we really need to talk to Mr. Dhar about on Monday because they made it clear that a blood test was requested, but our staff didn’t pick up on those signs, or certainly when we interviewed them, they didn’t , that a blood test was refused.”
