Former employee of Donald TrumpThe president’s campaign organization publicly stated that he once made jokes about Nazi “ovens” while Jewish leaders were in the same room.
Barbara Ress — lead engineer on the construction of Trump Tower and author of a memoir, Tower of Lies, about her nearly two decades working for the former president — MSNBC said on Sunday that her former boss would make “ridiculous remarks.”
“We had just hired a residential manager, a German,” Res said. “And Donald [Trump] he was boasting to us—there were four of us leaders—how great the man was, and what a gentleman he was, and so neat and clean. And he looked at a couple of our leaders, who happened to be Jewish, and he said, “Look out for that guy – he kind of remembers the ovens,” you know, and then he smiled.
“Everyone was shocked,” she continued. “I couldn’t believe he said that. But he was joking about Nazi ovens and killing people, and he was.”
The Nazis in Germany systematically murdered more than 6 million Jews during the Holocaust and World War II and burned the bodies of many in concentration camp ovens.
Res’s story on Sunday came as both parties try to court the Jewish vote in the November election, which is expected to be a rematch between Trump and Joe Biden. This vote could be played by how the Biden White House handles Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.
Trump argued that American Jews who vote for Democrats hate both Israel and Judaism, saying he and his Republican Party are better positioned to help end the war in Gaza.
Res, who has been critical of Trump’s treatment of women in the past, said the former president’s “embrace of religion” was “absolute nonsense.” She did not elaborate, but at the center of the prosecution, which recently led to Trump being convicted of 34 felonies, was hush money paid to Stormy Daniels, an adult film actor who claims he cheated on Trump early in the marriage his with Melania Trump.
Ress offered advice to Biden ahead of his televised debate with Trump, scheduled for Thursday.
“Want [Biden] it’s going to annoy him and drive him crazy because when he’s crazy, he’s really crazy,” Res said.
Ress’ appearance on MSNBC came after Trump held a campaign rally over the weekend in Philadelphia. She recalled a Nazi joke Trump once told, in part because of his choice to repeat at the rally a hypothetical situation involving an electric boat that sinks under the weight of its batteries and electrocutes its passengers, who are then surrounded by a shark.
