A man has been arrested after allegedly stealing a car and leading police on a high-speed chase on the M1 on Friday night.
Dozens of officers and a police helicopter tracked the driver from Loganlea to Nerang, eventually using tire spikes to stop the driver.
The 26-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving and impaired driving and obstructing police.
An Audi sports car was allegedly stolen from a home in Mermaid Waters on May 27.
Days later it was spotted by police in Logalea, south of Brisbane.
Police chased the car for several hours down the M1 towards the Gold Coast before tire spikes were launched.
Around 8:30 p.m., the car crashed into a highway barrier, and the 26-year-old man was detained on the road.
He will be arraigned at a later date.
