a veteran West coast linebacker Jeremy McGovern was sent to the hospital with an internal injury during the Eagles game AFL collision with Collingwood on Sunday.

The 32-year-old went flying for a goal in the second term and landed on his hand, which went into his ribs on impact with the ground.

He immediately left the ground in obvious pain, but put on a brave face to get back there.

McGovern made matters worse for himself when he equalized for Magpies debutant Joe Richards just on the half-time siren, drawing the ire of his opponents, who took issue with him before the shootout.

The 2018 Premier League hero tried to take to the field to start the final quarter but lasted just a few minutes before heading to the bench.

He was taken to the rooms where doctors realized he needed more urgent care and sent him to hospital.

“Jeremy McGovern will take no further part in the game following a severe collision (internal injury),” the club said.

This followed an injury to paceman Jack Petruccelle, who had been substituted earlier in the game with an ankle injury.

This is on top of injuries to star duo Elliott Yeo and Jake Waterman, plus youngster Noah Long, who missed last week’s Collingwood clash with injuries.

Brilliant halfback Nick Dykos continued his red-hot form to lead the Pies to a 66-point victory over the Eagles amid injury carnage for both sides.

With the Magpies’ makeshift forward line missing Jeremy Howe to a groin problem, Dykos pulled the strings in the engine room during the 15.13 (103) to 5.7 (37) win at Marvel Stadium.

The fluid ball-carrier racked up 36 disposals, 17 contested possessions, seven clearances, seven tackles and a goal as Collingwood improved to 5-1-3 ahead of the clash with Adelaide.

The Magpies also secured a much-needed percentage boost, picking up nine points to go over 100 for the first time this season.

But the victory came at a cost, with Howe (groin) and Harvey Harrison (ankle) injured in the first quarter.

Former St Kilda halfback Jack Beitel, who was replaced by Howe on his Magpies debut, also missed the game with concussion after a collision with Jack Darling.

A third straight loss leaves the Eagles at 2-7 and third from the bottom of the standings.

Daicos had plenty of support through his brother Josh Daicos (28 disposals), Scott Pendlebury (28), Jack Crisp (32) and John Noble (25) in a dominant Collingwood performance that started in the middle.

The Pies won the tilt 38-25, including a 16-6 destruction on center rebounds.

Finlay MacRae and Riff McInnes each recorded a career-high three goals and Bobby Hill added two more, while rookie-of-the-age Joe Richards impressed on his debut with 1.2 and three assists from 18 disposals.

Collingwood notched their second triple-figure score of the season despite the absence of leading scorers Jamie Elliott and Brody Michocek, as well as fourth Lachie Schultz.

Liam Duggan (27 disposals) and Alex Witherdon (30) struggled for West Coast and rising star Harley Reid (17) dealt a huge early blow to Billy Frampton’s back, but it was a rare highlight for the visitors.

Each of the Eagles’ three first-half goals – including one to debutant Tyrell Dewar – received quick answers at the other end as Collingwood blew the game wide open in the second term.

The Pies, who kicked seven first-half goals straight from central clearance, hit six big ones in a 12-minute run to take a 55-point lead into the main break.

Collingwood’s lead reached 74 points at one point, but they were outscored 2.2 to 1.2 in the final round.
